UbeLeavable Flavours- Ube Vietnamese Coffee
We are all artists, and coffee is our canvas!
Here at PIC, we love experimenting with coffee. Sometimes, it’s a miss, but on most occasions, we discover something magical!
Recently, we came across a very interesting ingredient to experiment with! Ube is a type of purple yam used in Southeast Asian cuisines. It has a distinct deep purple colour and a sweet, nutty flavour. Ube is often used in desserts, such as cakes, pastries, ice cream, and puddings, where it adds both flavour and vibrant colour. Ube extract is sweet and earthy, and lends a deep purple hue to everything it is added to.
Drawing from its South East Asian origin, we tried out a recipe for a Ube Flavoured Vietnamese Coffee. It was sweet, earthy, refreshing and definitely worth trying again. Here’s the recipe-
Ingredients:
– 1 PIC Coffee Nespresso compatible Caffeinated pod
– 1 tbsp Condensed milk
– 1/2 cup milk of choice
– 1-2 teaspoons of ube extract (adjust to taste)
– Ice cubes
Instructions:
- In a cup, add condensed milk.
- Place the cup under the machine. Insert the Nespresso compatible PIC Caffeinated pod and press the Espresso button. The coffee will brew directly onto the condensed milk.
- In another cup, take the milk and add ube extract. Mix to combine till it has a distinct purple colour.
- In a tall glass, add ice cubes as desired. Pour the brewed coffee and condensed milk mix. Then, add the ube milk on top.
- Mix thoroughly and enjoy!
Feel free to adjust the sweetness or creaminess according to your preference by altering the amount of condensed milk used. Experiment with the ratio of coffee to milk to find the perfect balance for your taste buds!
